The Stories of My Travel
My first flights were fairly decent...wait, what am I saying...Let's back up.
Last Thursday, I had my friend Monica drive Ben and I to the airport. I went to pick her up, but then had to turn around and run back home because I had forgotten my most important accessory, my phone.
This turned out to be a good thing because just as we got into Tucson there was a flipped mini van and some bloody people spilled out into the median. The police hadn't arrived yet, but Border Patrol was there and some other random people who either witnessed it, or wanted to help. Traffic was moving at a good pace though, even with the rubber neckers. On Monica's way home traffic was seriously backed up and there were even helicopters landed on the freeway. Crazy.
By the time she was sitting in traffic, I was comfortably seated in row 7, seat A with an empty seat next to me! But just as a was celebrating my empty seat victory a tall, big, sweaty man walked up to me and said, "Hello. That's my seat."
He was pouring sweat and then proceeded to tell me that, "Some illegals got themselves killed on I-10. I was racing here from the post because my prior flight got canceled, but I need to get home to my wife."
Oh, thanks for filling me in. I was wondering about all that sweat. I offered him a refreshing diaper wipe, but he said no. He never wiped the sweat away, just let it continue to pour down his face. Mmm.
By this time, we are taxiing down the runway and then we stop. After a few minutes of waiting the captain comes on and says, "Sorry for the delay folks, looks like we've got some weather in Houston, should be about 30 minutes."
An hour and a half later we were cleared for take off. It was a miserable flight, and I was hot. I ended up getting sick and throwing up, but at least I made it to the bathroom. Benjamin and I didn't eat anything because I had planned to eat lunch during our layover in Houston. Once we arrived there, I made it to my gate and my flight was already delayed because of the weather was then delayed another half hour. So we grabbed some food and ate it while some girl chatted on her cell phone about how cute Ben was. She told her man that she would show him, and when she thought I wasn't looking started snapping pictures with her phone. lol.
The flight to Ohio was good. By good I mean, row behind first class, plenty of legroom, entire row to myself, Benjamin behaved. I didn't arrive until around 1am though. So needless to say, it was a long day. Next time remind me to bring a blanket. I guess only first class gets those now, unless you can snatch one from the seat on your way by, which some people did.
My return flights were a little more exciting. I woke up at 3:45am, showered, and had my dad drive me and Ben to the airport so we could catch our 6am flight. We made it on time, and again my mom picked me the seat behind first class. I love that legroom. My first flight was on a large plane, which was good. I hate flying on the ones that have only 3 seats to a row, 2 on one side, 1 on the other. Ick.
We boarded the plane and lucky for me I got to sit next to a mother and her autistic son. She wanted me to know her life story and I graciously listened and threw in a few things about Liz. That's all I could relate with. The boy was 8 years old. He had a pretty cool giant stroller, I think I'm gonna get one so Rick can push me around. It's a lightweight ride that weighs only 15.2 pounds and can hold 130 pounds. She talked my ear off for much of the flight, but I was too tired to listen any more so I just turned away from her when she was fussing over David, Bobby, Papi, or John. She used ALL of those names while talking to him, so I really never knew what his name was. She did give me a good tips, ALWAYS trust your instincts as a mother. Her son was 2 years old before she found someone who would listen to her.
Aside from the constant talking, and the child putting the window shade up and down, up and down, up and down....it was actually a pretty turbulent flight. I just tried to sleep. The landing was rough, and once we got off the plane, I spent some time in the bathroom, still uneasy from the descent and landing. Ugh. Then, Benjamin and I got some breakfast and headed to our gate.
Now..this flight from Houston to Tucson was gonna be fine. I looked out the window and breathed a sigh of relief as another big plane rolled into the gate.
I only got a little woozy on the flight and Ben slept for most of it. It was only when I was trying to get my tray out of the armrest that things got a little wacky. I was sitting next to an elderly couple. The man had his jacket over the arm rest that he apparently owned. I politely said excuse me, I'd like to get my tray table out. At this point, I wasn't sure he heard me. He began digging around in his pocket. I said, excuse me again, this time a little louder. Just as I said it, he whipped a hankie out of his jacket pocket and elbowed me in the face. He only had one good arm, the other was in a brace. He never said a word. I said ouch. But he didn't seem to even notice. Then I was annoyed, so I just moved the coat and got the tray table out. I looked over at him to find his eyes closed, head tilted back, mouth open. Maybe he did all of that in his sleep. I almost took a picture of him, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. Ah well. I guess we'll never know.
We landed, hit the bathroom because Ben pooped on the way down and this flight had no baby changers in any of the 3 bathrooms, picked up our bag that came around the carousel just as I walked by, and met daddy on the outside.
All is well, we are home and getting back into the swing of things, we have lots of stuff to do this week. We only have NINE days until we move. I can't believe it. We have a ton of stuff to do over the next few days. Rick is also working on his last mission, which involves an 8 hour day shift (thankfully) and no lunch break. So much of the packing/repacking I'm going to be doing on my own. I need to get some boxes though.
And with that, this post has gotten quite long, so I hope you enjoyed my travels...I know I always do. Thanks Mom & Dad for bringing me home. :)
