Nothing Between us but a Great Long Stretch of Road

Hello From Van Horn, Texas!

It's a one horse town that's for sure. We had a good day of travel. Benjamin had a minor melt down when we decided to do an hour and a half more of driving. But for the majority of the day he was in good spirits or sleeping. The video below is of Ben's new trick, the "fake laugh." Which everyone, including us, think is hilarious. He just started doing it about 3 days ago, and it's too funny.

We drove about 500 miles today and tomorrow we should be in Sierra Vista. However, we can't move in to our apartment until Monday because we have to weigh the truck+trailer in order to get paid for the move. No problem..I'm enjoying the Suite Life. :) I am ready to stop eating restaurant food though. Tonight we dined at a place called "The Cattle Company." It was mom and pop type place and we are pretty certain they put locals on one side and out-of -towners on the other.

It's a small town...Gas prices soaring at $3.63. Ouch. But our hotel is decent we're enjoying our time.

We are traveling with another fam, our friends Kevin and Monica and their dog Sonya. It's been nice having other people on the road. We don't stay together on the highway which is cool because it eliminates any pressure to drive a certain way. But we've been meeting up for dinner or lunch and even some snacks. It will be sad when our AZ time is over and they move on to OK. That's the Army for ya.

Anyway..I'm going to bed. But, it's Rick's mom's birthday today. So Happy Birthday Mom M! :)

On The Road Again...

Here we are driving from Louisiana into Texas. ;) We made it to Fort Worth tonight and have enjoyed our time in Texas so far.

Of course when in Texas, you must find a traditional steak house to eat at. We Found the "Salt Grass Steakhouse: Texas to the Bone." Wow. What an absolutely amazing meal. Yum. Yum. Yum!!!

We're relaxing for the night at a glorious Holiday Inn Express. It's great. We got the laaaaassst room. Muahahaha! (That was for you Liz)

Tomorrow, our goal is to make it somewhere into New Mexico. So, thank you all for your prayers, our trip has been really great so far. Benjamin has been especially good which makes everything easier.

I'd better get to bed.. but here is a video of Ben escaping from our GA apartment. Any time the door wasn't shut all the way he thought it was so he could go outside.

Loaded Up and Truckin...

We were packed and on the road by 12:30pm yesterday afternoon. We drove until Jackson, Mississippi where we found a lovely Best Western to camp for the night. I didn't know this, but you can in fact negotiate hotel room rates. We got a $110.00 room for $85! It's 8:20am here and we plan to eat breakfast, pack it up, and move it out.
Just give the kid some cheetos and we're good to go! (Don't worry, they are just Gerber baby veggie puffs aka baby cheetos)

It's been a good trip so far, Benjamin has been fantastic, sleeping most of the drive here. Today we are going to try to make it to Dallas. We shall see :)

Blah.

I hate moving.
Here is another random video from this month. :)

Action

Here is a VERY short video of Ben touching the goat. Please note the little kid in the striped shirt that pushes Ben out of his way..and then the other two that move in and cut the video short.

Atlanta for the Weekend*

We had a great weekend. Rick came home relatively early on Friday night and we went out to Buffalo Wild Wings with some friends. That's always a good time.
Saturday morning we got up early and headed to Atlanta, on the way we encountered an Ace Hardware going out of business sale so we picked up a couple of locks and light bulbs...and ice cream treats, and crunch bars....lol.
When we got to Atlanta, we checked into our hotel and had our car parked in a secure location. Apparently there are many car thieves in Atlanta..Secure parking lots are advertised everywhere.
After we checked in we walked to the aquarium. Hooray for military discounts. :) The aquarium was fun and Ben really loved the fish. I think he also would have liked to go for a swim. After the aquarium we spent some time at the Olympic park. That was really fun. I could have watched people play in the fountains all day. Random people (like Rick) who thought they could out smart the fountain, but instead got soaked. Hahaha...
For dinner we went to the Hard Rock Cafe where it was apparently prom...I wouldn't have let some of those girls out of the house...sheesh. There were also several pretty cool dudes from a high school robotics competition that happened in the civic center over the weekend. I love nerds. A couple of them asked a random girl if they could take a picture hugging them...lol. Pure entertainment. These nerds were also enthralled by Ben and assured me that he was a baby genius who would indeed build robots one day. They oohed and ahhed over every noise he made and tried to make him high five them as well. Again, pure entertainment.
On Sunday we got up fairly early and went to the World of Coca Cola. A museum of sorts. We really liked it, we watched two short movies, saw lots of cool stuff, watched how coke gets made and bottled, and...tasted 70 different coke products from all over the world. Some were great, some were HORRIBLE, all were fun!
After World of Coke we checked out of the hotel and headed to Zoo Atlanta. It was a pretty small zoo, but still fun. And again, hooray for military discounts. :) Ben enjoyed the animals that he could easily see and he did really well at the petting zoo. I've been teaching him "soft touches" because he tends to whack and bang. I didn't get a good picture of him petting the goat, but I did get a video, which I will try to upload later. The Panasonic is not as fast as my Nikon, and since my lens broke on Sunday morning we had no choice. :( (my lens was injured last thursday when ben grabbed the strap and pulled it off the table near the pool..I just wasn't fast enough, or smart enough to keep the strap out of his reach...and then on Sunday, I attempted to zoom it in and it got stuck...long story short, it broke, and now some things are loose inside...and I'm sad.)
After the zoo we came home, Ben slept the whole way, which was nice. Rick and I enjoyed some nice conversation and high school musical 2 sing-a-longs. Yes..it's true.
In other news...Benjamin took FOUR steps on Sunday! He also got his top, left, front tooth. He was really good though. Also..king size beds are wonderful.
Anyway..if you would like to see all of the pictures from our trip, they are in two albums, Here and Here!
Happy Monday! We move to Arizona in 4 days... ;)
